About Job Clifton Conger, IV

I was born September 5, 1947 to Job Clifton Conger, III, son of Job Clifton Conger II, son of Job Clifton Conger. My dad was married to Avis Jones. Though he was from Columbia, South Carolina and moved to Macon, Georgia and she was from Cochran, Georgia, they moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1939 with my sister Dorothy. I came along in 1947 and my brother William Harrison Conger arrived September 12, 1949. I am a freelance journalist in search of a full-time employer who can use a writer/photographer.  I am not a genealogist, but I am the person Maxine Crowell Leonard of Waverly, Iowa chose to carry on her Conger family history in the 1990s. I visited her and Larry several times and moved their Conger materials to my home. I continued publishing their newsletter Conger Confab for some years until the subscription revenues no longer supported it. I have many back issues for sale. For more information write me  jobconger@eosinc.com

When I’m not writing for Springfield Business Journal and Illinois Times, I write poetry and songs and recite/sing them when invited. My books of poetry, song lyrics and essays — Minstrel’s Ramble: to Live and Die in Springfield, Illinois; Wit’s End and Bear’ sKin are available for purchase, autographed, directly from me. Arcadia Publishing offers my book Springfield Aviation for sale and so do I.  I’m also a fan of Springfield poet Vachel Lindsay (1879 – 1931), have written a book about him, and lecture/recite when invited.

What have I not stated here about me that you would like to know?

    Hello Job,
I believe that we are 8th cousins once removed with John Belconger as our common ancestor. My Conger family goes something like this:
    John Belconger>John (Bel)Conger>Jonathan (NJ)>David Conger(NJ)>(NJ)>Ephraim(PA)>Elias (PA)>William F. (PA)>Joesph(PA)>Albert(PA).
I applaud your efforts in keeping the Conger web site running. I know how time consuming even a small bit of upkeep can be. Thanks so much. It is a great added resource for my grandchildren… I don’t know if any of the Confab newsletters could add to my research. I’ll check out the Index and see if there’s something of interest and email you to see if you still have the issue(s)>
    Again….. thanks, Penny
